Times Union: Title dream comes to end
Following the first touchdown Sweet Home scored on its opening drive Saturday night, the public-address system at the Syracuse Carrier Dome belted out the song "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar. The Panthers continued to hit Burnt Hills over and over again with huge plays, but the Spartans kept bouncing back — just when it looked like Sweet Home would waltz away with a convincing victory in the state Class A football championship.

Times Union: Mutual respect earned in Dome
The game was over, and most of the fans at the Carrier Dome had long since departed. Only a few media members, the Carrier Dome support staff and a couple of New York State Public High School Athletic Association officials remained in the championship home for state football. In the corner of the end zone, Burnt Hills senior Connor Hadcock and Sweet Home's Steve Phillips quietly started up a conversation.

Daily Gazette: Gritty Spartans' effort falls short
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake football team could have thrown up a white flag after Sweet Home used its big-play offense to grab a three-touchdown lead in the first half of Saturday’s state Class A championship game at the Carrer Dome. It would have been the easy way out. It didn’t happen.

After Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake came within three yards of tying the score, Sweet Home marched 97 yards for a pivotal score and went on to defeat the Spartans, 35-28, today in the state Class A championship football game at the Carrier Dome.

Post-Star: Journey ends for Tigers
Midway through the first quarter Saturday, Joe McMurry, Hudson Falls' stellar tailback, took a handoff and darted into a hole in the line. A split-second later, McMurry was slammed to the frozen turf, blindsided by Rye linebacker Kyle Ramalho. That's how little room McMurry and the Tigers had to work against a much quicker Rye defense.

Post-Star: A bond no defense can break
Bill Strong watched the young boy in his first fifth-grade class, the one who came every day in his Jason Sehorn jersey, as he grew into this man. Watched as he ran for 1,000 yards as a sophomore, watched as he rushed for 434 yards in a single game as a junior, and watched as he ran for 2,563 more this year, a whisker shy of the Section II single-season record. Watched as the little boy became more famous, at least in these parts, than the name on the jersey he used to wear.

Times Union: Overwhelmed, over
To beat a football team that's as good as Rye, the defending state Class B football champions, Hudson Falls needed to be just about flawless. Turning the ball over on the third play from scrimmage is not exactly a formula for success.
